Thanks to Cecil B. Demille

The Oscar party was a hit, even though it was rainy and cold... we just bundled up with blankets and bottles of champagne...

And the Winner is...

Oscar time again, and every year we do our annual mussels, steamed into oblivion in butter and wine with rosemary and leeks {yum}. And, as one should, a proper glass of champagne is always in order (or two...or three!)

Tonight the Classics...

How I miss my record player and vinyls! I still have a good collection, and am on the hunt for a new record player~ nothing like a Saturday night with classics on vinyl.

Coco Chanel...

Got around to watching Coco Avant Chanel last night, which was really well done by Audrey Tatou. I highly recommend it. Inspired by all things Chanel...

A Day for Flowers

Well,
To put things mildly, I have had some medical issues lately (I won't bore you with the details...) and I haven't felt like myself for a while. But today after my visit, I felt like myself. It wasn't a life defining moment, nor were there fireworks or elation...but it was a subtle reminder of who I am when I am most happiest, and healthy... and as I was grabbing some groceries I thought of flowers.

Photobucket
I treated myself to a delectable little bouquet, that are now bestowed on my bedside table:)

Here's to all of you facing struggles, or just enjoying the beauty of early spring. Today was a day for flowers.

Sunday's Pick: Showering Flowers

I was inspired by J. Crew's flowy, seagreen Adle romper, coupled with a fabulous Cardie, a seafaring hat and accessories.

Photobucket
J.Crew Adle Romper $98, Metallic beach cardigan $128, Whip it snake belt $39.50, Panama Hat $58, Mira jeweled gladiator sandals $378= $701.50

My rendition is a little off the cuff, but I really like it, and it's less! Instead of picking a romper in a flowy fabric, I chose a more constructed floral drape skirt.... click here to see the look for less

Sunday's Pick

Well, I have to admit today was all around just a crappy day. Just crappy. I worked, as I usually do on Sundays (the weekends in totality) and I thought to myself it would be nice to have weekends off... to lounge around and go shopping... to eat brunch with friends and talk about fashion and traveling, and what we are doing to spruce up the house. Anyway, I got home, after spending too much money on groceries again, and thought up an idea...

I saw a fabulous look on Anthropologie's website, and started to create a similar look for less. It was so fun, I had to share!
So here's to my outfit hunting, and to my very late dinner (from spending time piecing the outfit together).

I hope you are out there- somewhere in the void, reading me, whoever you are... xoxo

In Black and White

I am so mesmerized by Lillian Bassman's photography of women.... it is so elusive and intriguing- she truly captures the mystery and beauty of women.

Photobucket

I also love this woman's mixed media art: Kristina Lewis

Photobucket
It's so beautiful, you'd never guess it is made from embossing tape, drinking straws, and other adhesives.

I hope your weekend is relaxing, and you are finding treasures to share...

Heart Takes Flight

Ok, so here are three of my Valentines... two paper cards with embellishments... lace, buttons, and wire as promised... I still think I will make the others I got so behind on (Mother's Day gifts???) The third Valentine here was inspired by a delectable little retro ice pack that I purchased at Lucy, that I filled with rock candy- a stand in for ice:) I hope you like them!

Photobucket
This Valentine was inspired by a piece of fabric from one of my father's old shirts. He passed back in 1991, and so he was in my heart this Valentines Day. The wings have significance in various ways: for one, he was a Green Beret and jumped out of many a plane during his life. They also are his wings- I still feel him watching over me, protecting me... New love or old, you can interpret it however you'd like:)

Heart Wrapped in Pink
Photobucket
The inspiration for this piece was my mother, and her love of pink, both in ribbons and in flowers. Off to the side I sewed on some leaves, for her love of gardening.

Sore Heart?
Photobucket
Have a heartache... simply place this little ice pack on your heart and you'll start feeling better.

Lost in Wonderland

Completely photographed under water, Elena Kalis captures Alice in Wonderland in the most dreamy and timeless way. These photographs make me want to get an underwater camera to do shoots:) Such ephemeral beauty and innocence...

All Dolled Up

I found these amazing dolls on flikr, by Fierce Bunny. They are nothing like the dolls I used to play with as a child... which at the time, I thought were heavenly. Something about this time of year makes me fancy the whimsical...

I have yet to post my handmade Valentines... Happy belated Valentines Day to you all! I've been working too much and was feeling crummy last week. I figure, however, that love is appropriate all year 'round! There is always an excuse for a valentine and handmade forget me not. Until then, a toute a l'heure!

Pretty in Preen

This season, there seems to be such a variety in design. There's the overly patterned and bright neon... space style cuts, and bad remnants of the eighties. And then there is the sheer chiffon and the 'new' short dress with ankle boot pumps. I prefer Preen's simple, flowy, and feminine pieces. Neutral and cool, they are very pretty...
